How to make a fire pit

We had this "ring" of pine trees in our front yard. At some point after we moved here, my parents put rocks in it. My brother had made a chair, a basket, and a flower stand out of branches (with the help of our great uncle). It had been outside in the weather for a while and was getting kind of junky.

My Mom decided she wanted to make it into a fire pit so we could have people over to sit around the fire and roast hot dogs, marshmallows...you get the idea :)

This is what it looked like before:

Way back in May, Mom and I started on it. All we got done was trimming around the edges.

Today we worked on it some more and finished it!

To start, we marked out the area we wanted to be the fire ring using the "stepping stones" from before. Our shape ended up being more oblongish then circle because our area is not a perfect circle.

After we had it figured out where we wanted the ring, we started removing the rocks.

When we had first put down the small rocks, we put some black stuff underneath to help prevent the weeds from coming up. It worked a little but there were still weeds that came up :) So, since we had that down, we had to cut it and take it out.

So now your fire pit looks like this :)

Now you ask your brother to come and put the rocks around the edge of the ring. You can't do it yourself because the rocks are so big, so you and your Mom stand to the side and instruct him what to do :)

And this is the finished product! (minus the weirdo in the background)

Now you are ready to have lots of friends over! You just need to make sure you have a fire in there otherwise you will be sitting there with your hot dogs for a long time! ;)

Looks good! although I have to admit, when I saw the title of your post, I got a little scared. I thought maybe it was another "how to get out of freezing corn" post. Glad its not though! :)
