On Wednesday night, our family went to the Rockville High School for a cake and pie auction for the FFA program. Families brought either a pie, a cake, or a fruit basket that would be auctioned off. All the proceeds went to the chapter (Ashley is that right?).
My mom and I made an apple pie. I kinda wanted a piece but then I would've had to make another one :)
They set out the pies and cakes on tables for everyone to view. I think there were 48 different things. I have a couple pictures of the ones I thought were cute.
This one is completely edible except for the toothpicks and the metal part holding the wind thing on the top of the barn. The barn is cake and most everything else was molded chocolate. Can you guess how much it went for?
Isn't it cute??!! I love all the detail. The pigs have mud on them like they were rolling in the mud!
The other picture I took was of some cupcakes made to look like a bouquet of flowers. Very creative!!
It looks like they placed the cupcakes in a plastic cup and then placed them in a basket or something. Love it!
The other part of this was the FFA kids (except the freshmen I think) had to make a poster on their SAE project. So Evan did his on the chickens and his garden.
Evan was being dumb about smiling for a picture. Peter walked by and Evan said, "Peter, come in the picture." I guess Evan kinda smiled :)
Close-up of Evans poster. Well, kind of close :)
All the freshmen received the green hand award (not exactly sure what it is). This is Mrs. Harlow talking before the freshmen came up to receive their award.
Can you see Evan? He's the parliamentarian and the fourth from the right.
Now for the fun part....the auction!!
Everybody who wants one is given a plate with a number written on the bottom. Attached is a fork as the handle. Someone took a picture of every cake and made a power point presentation. Then the auctioneer auctions them off. It's kind of neat to see which ones go for the most and have the most bidders.
Dad ended up buying 3 cakes and David bought 1. Anybody want some dessert??????????
Dad kicked off the auction by buying the very first cake!
#1. Some blueberry, white chocolate, cream cheese coffee cake. Looks pretty good.
The shiny stuff is plastic wrap, just so you know :) This went in the freezer because we have more food then we can eat right now :)
#2. Date cake made by Della Gale. My dad got this last year and really liked it, so he got it again! It has chocolate chips, some kind of nuts, and dates. It's pretty good.
#3. Pumpkin sheet cake made by Cherinne Wheeler. This is the one that Evan wanted. Haven't tried it yet but looks like it will be good.
The flowers probably won't taste that good though :)
And last but not least (this one is Davids)
#4. Devils food cake with vanilla frosting and green (hopefully not moldy :) coconut. Looks like a farm, wonder why....
Made by Kim Morrill.
David was hungry :)
Oh, and by the way, the farm went for $85!!!!
