Rockville FFA Cake, Pie, & Fruit Basket Auction

On Wednesday night, our family went to the Rockville High School for a cake and pie auction for the FFA program. Families brought either a pie, a cake, or a fruit basket that would be auctioned off. All the proceeds went to the chapter (Ashley is that right?).

My mom and I made an apple pie. I kinda wanted a piece but then I would've had to make another one :)

They set out the pies and cakes on tables for everyone to view. I think there were 48 different things. I have a couple pictures of the ones I thought were cute.

This one is completely edible except for the toothpicks and the metal part holding the wind thing on the top of the barn. The barn is cake and most everything else was molded chocolate. Can you guess how much it went for?
Isn't it cute??!! I love all the detail. The pigs have mud on them like they were rolling in the mud!

The other picture I took was of some cupcakes made to look like a bouquet of flowers. Very creative!!
It looks like they placed the cupcakes in a plastic cup and then placed them in a basket or something. Love it!

The other part of this was the FFA kids (except the freshmen I think) had to make a poster on their SAE project. So Evan did his on the chickens and his garden.
Evan was being dumb about smiling for a picture. Peter walked by and Evan said, "Peter, come in the picture." I guess Evan kinda smiled :)

Close-up of Evans poster. Well, kind of close :)

All the freshmen received the green hand award (not exactly sure what it is). This is Mrs. Harlow talking before the freshmen came up to receive their award.
Can you see Evan? He's the parliamentarian and the fourth from the right.

Now for the fun part....the auction!!
Everybody who wants one is given a plate with a number written on the bottom. Attached is a fork as the handle. Someone took a picture of every cake and made a power point presentation. Then the auctioneer auctions them off. It's kind of neat to see which ones go for the most and have the most bidders.

Dad ended up buying 3 cakes and David bought 1. Anybody want some dessert??????????
Dad kicked off the auction by buying the very first cake!
#1. Some blueberry, white chocolate, cream cheese coffee cake. Looks pretty good.
The shiny stuff is plastic wrap, just so you know :) This went in the freezer because we have more food then we can eat right now :)

#2. Date cake made by Della Gale. My dad got this last year and really liked it, so he got it again! It has chocolate chips, some kind of nuts, and dates. It's pretty good.

#3. Pumpkin sheet cake made by Cherinne Wheeler. This is the one that Evan wanted. Haven't tried it yet but looks like it will be good.
The flowers probably won't taste that good though :)

And last but not least (this one is Davids)
#4. Devils food cake with vanilla frosting and green (hopefully not moldy :) coconut. Looks like a farm, wonder why....
Made by Kim Morrill.

David was hungry :)

Oh, and by the way, the farm went for $85!!!!

Day 5, 6, and 7

I'm going to combine the rest of the days into one post since there aren't many pictures and not too much happened (except Monday, but we'll get to that:)

Sunday, we went to Sarasota church. Just a pic of us girls before church.
It may be a little blurry since I cropped it quite a bit.

Sunday for supper we went out to eat and then back to church for a singing.

Now, onto Monday.
It started off okay...but didn't end the greatest :)
I don't even remember what we did Monday morning, but sometime mid-morning, Lanae was taking a shower. All of a sudden she comes running out and says that there is water coming up through the drain in the shower and flowing out from the toilet. What happened was Grandpa was trying to unplug the toilet in the other bathroom and since something was plugged up in the pipes, "the stuff" didn't have anywhere else to go except up and out! We had had problems with the toilet plugging before. So the water and whatever else was in there kept coming out onto the floor in the bathroom and into the hallway. Completely understandable, Grandma wasn't very happy about it especially since they were only renting. So us girls took off and went to the beach. It was kind of cloudy so we just walked on the beach for a while.

By the time we got back from the beach, around 6:00 pm, the plumber, who was called quite a while before that, had arrived. He went outside and pulled some cover off of something and a lot of bugs (the plumber said they were cousins of cockroaches) started crawling out, and all over the plumber. He had to pick through a hard crusty something (don't want to know what it was!) and then the water started flowing again. If we had known that was the problem, we could have saved G&G some money!

That night we made a game out of word finds. Grandma would tell us the title of the word find and we had to guess which words were part of the word find. Actually pretty fun! We took some videos but I'm not going to post them, they aren't all that exciting to watch :)

Our LAST day has arrived, Tuesday. Sooooooooo sad :(
Totally not ready for the cold weather of CT.
Oh well, we tried to make the best of the last day. We went to the beach in the morning. At first it was sunny, but then became too cloudy and cold to sit out there. So we went back to the house and rode our bikes for a little while. We rode a lot on our sweet bikes. Windward Isle is a good place for riding bikes :)

Anyhow, back to Tuesday. Soon, the sun came out so we went to the pool and enjoyed our last few hours of sun and warm weather in January. At 4:00 we packed up the car and headed out.

We had so much fun when we were down there. Hopefully we will do it again (if Grandma doesn't mind us coming down. We'll try not to clog the toilet too many times:)

Well, now that my trip to FL is done, hopefully I will find something else to post about. I wouldn't hold your breath though, I would like to see you again :)

Day 4: Part 2

Well, I thought this was going to be "Up Next", but I guess not :) I had to do the other post for my class.

So, we went back to the beach Saturday night to watch the sun set. Grandpa and Grandma came along this time and stayed.

A pic of us girls and Gram:

We asked someone on the beach to take a picture of all six of us.
If you can't tell, not everyone knew where to look :) I think both of the people had a camera.

A pic of Grandpa & Grandma:

And of course a pic of us girls :)

And the beach at sunset
Totally wish I were there right now!!!!!!!

And to finish this post off, a few random pics:
This was written in the sand. Very cute!
Can you tell we were at the beach?
A little sun flare!
Just what you wanted to see,  right?.....our feet!!!

RSS Feeds

The article I found was about Yahoo! Finance using RSS feeds. You can get feeds that follow your favorite company. You have to use a certain url and then according to which company you want, you use a certain ticker symbol. http://developer.yahoo.com/finance/company.html

A benefit of using Google Reader to subscribe to several sites would be that all the information is in one spot. You don't have to go to all the sites to see if there is something new. Another thing I liked, is that if you didn't want to follow something anymore, you can simply delete it. It doesn't have to stay there forever. So far, I haven't seen any drawbacks. Probably the more I use it, the more I will find :)

Day 4

I'm going to separate this day into two posts. This first one will be during the day at the beach on Saturday. Grandpa and Grandma drove us to the beach and stayed for a while. Then they left and we called them when we were ready to be picked up.

We were so excited to be there!!!! The whole day was awesome, sunny and about 80 degrees. Amaaaaaaaaazing!!!!!!

Here's some pics:

Grandpa and Grandma

Lanae                                                                        Laura

Heidi                                                                          Josie

And guess what??!! We enjoyed our lunch so much, we thought we would share with the seagulls! (NOT!!!)

So here is what really happened. We were sitting on the blanket eating our lunch, which consisted of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (well, some of them had jelly, right Nae?) and snacks.

So, Josie was eating her sandwich and all of a sudden, seagulls appeared and started trying to get her sandwich. She got up and started running around, but the seagulls still followed. She ended up throwing her sandwich to Laura, but Laura threw it back. Josie surrendered, and threw her sandwich to the seagulls.

So now, they should leave us alone, right? But they didn't!! Next, they visited Laura. She had ripped a piece of sandwich off and had it in between her fingers, and they took it right out of her fingers!!!!!!!!!!! So now Laura was running around trying to out run the seagulls. As she ran around the blanket, she threw her sandwich into the snack bag that was sitting there. And one seagull went right in there and took the thing out!!! We couldn't believe it!!!!

Lanae hid her sandwich under her swim suit and I hid mine under my towel, and ate it piece by piece. And the whole time this was happening, the people around us were laughing and someone was video taping the whole thing!!!!!!!!!

Oh well, makes good memories :)

Waiting for our ride

That was so fun!
We all got burnt, but hey, that way we had proof that we went to Florida :)

Up next: the beach at sunset.

Day 3

Traveling to somewhere.  Can't forget to bring the camera :)
We take pictures in the car, but not of where we went!!

I think we might have gone to the Red Barn this day (but I'm not exactly sure:). It is kind of like a flea market. There was a ton of stuff!

Josie decided to walk home to CT.

She quickly decided it wasn't a good idea, especially in heels :)
Friday evening we went to New Years Eve services at church.

After church, the girls decided to do exercises.
Even Grandma joined in!!

Grandpa and I decided to just watch :)

Day 2

On Thursday we went to a park like place (I can't remember the name:). There was a large lake that had a bunch of crocodiles in it. Since it wasn't sunny, they didn't come up much. There was also a little trail that we walked. There were two towers that were connected by a bridge that moved around when you walked on it.

We got someone to take a picture of all six of us:

And a few more lovely pictures of us girls :)

Day 1

This is a little late, but I thought I would post anyhow.

I went down to Florida with 3 of my cousins, Josie, Laura, and Lanae. We visited our grandparents in Sarasota. We left December 29th and came back January 4th.

So, for today, I will post a few pictures and a couple videos from the first day. We were very excited to be there, while our families were up here in the cold!

Here is a video going from the entrance to their trailer:

Thanks Lor-Lor for the video :)

This is the inside of their trailer:

Just a few lovely photos of us :)
